Una noche de festejar

¿Quién dice que las profesoras no pueden divertirse también?  Porque todas nosotras llegamos a Europa antes de la fecha para el programa, ese fin de semana fue el primer sin algo que hacer que todas habíamos tenido por un rato.  Decidimos celebrar un poquito, y después, relajarnos.  

Comimos a un restaurante cerca de la universidad.  Estaba lleno de estudiantes y profesores, y tenía muy buena comida.  Nos gustó mucho el pulpo a la gallega.

Después fuimos para Sol, donde está toda la acción.  Siempre hay mucha gente, españoles y turistas, con miles de opciones de cosas que hacer.  Porque todavía era temprano (para Madrid - como las once), fuimos primero a la Chocolatería San Ginés, que desde 1894 ha sido el mejor lugar para churros con chocolate en toda la ciudad.

Caminábamos un poquito después, viendo todas las posibilidades.  Por fin, decidimos ir a una discoteca para bailar.  Aunque los jóvenes se quedan en las discotecas y los bares hasta las muy horas muy tempranas (o tarde?? 🤔) de la mañana (como las seis), nosotros volvimos a las tres y fue bastante tarde y suficiente para nosotras! 😝

El domingo fue para el Rastro, un mercado al aire libro, una tradición de los domingos desde 1740.  Hay miles (en serio) de puestos vendiendo de todo - cosas de segunda mano, ropa, artesanía, herramientas, etc. Todas nosotras compramos carteles de flamenco para nuestras clases.

Nos relajamos mucho el resto del fin de semana, tomando el sol a la piscina y disfrutando de la compañía de nuevas amigas.

Who says teachers can't have fun, too?  Because we all arrived here in Europe before the start date of the program, that weekend was the first that we didn't have anything to do for a while.  We decided to celebrate a little, and then relax.

We ate a restaurant near the university.  It was full of students and professors, and it had really good food.  We loved the Galician-style octopus.

Afterwards, we went to Sol, where all of the action is.  It is always full of people, Spaniards and tourists, with thousands of options of things to do.  Because it was still early (for Madrid - like 11:00pm), we first went to Chocolatería San Ginés, which since 1894 has been the best place in the city to get churros with chocolate.  

We walked around a bit after, looking at all of our possibilities.  Finally we decided to go to a discoteca for some dancing.  Even though the young people stay out until the early hours (or are they late?? 🤔) of the morning (like 6:00am), we went back around 3:00am, and that was sufficiently late for us! 😝

Sunday was a day for the Rastro, a medieval open air market and Sunday tradition since 1740.  There are thousands (seriously) of stands that sell a little bit of everything - second-hand goods, clothes, arts and crafts, tools, etc.  We all bought a poster for a flamenco show for our classroom.

We just relaxed the rest of the weekend, laying out at the pool, and enjoying the company of new friends.
